 HUGUENOT HERITAGE

The Huguenot Cross: A Symbol of Faith and Perseverance

huguenot-crossxx.png

The Huguenot Cross emerged in the late seventeenth century as a distinctive emblem of French Protestant identity. Its design combines the Maltese Cross—associated with courage, service, and steadfastness—with four tear-shaped petals recalling the sufferings endured by the Huguenots.

Between the arms of the cross are small tongues of flame, representing the Holy Spirit’s presence in times of trial.
Suspended beneath the cross is the dove, the ancient Christian symbol of peace and the Spirit’s guiding protection.
